The imperative of competitiveness consequent to the liberalization of the economy, the shortening of the life cycle of the products and the technologies, make, among other things, scientific research an obligation for Tunisia which aspires to accede in the medium term to the rank of the technically advanced countries.

In particular, the survival of the strategic sector of the emerging manufacturing industry, the conquest of new technologies, the maintenance and the modernization of the national industrial heritage in its various sectors, depend on the presence of strong research structures close to the needs of industry and the socio-economic world. It should be added that it is thanks to the continuity of the research activity that the knowledge and know-how of the teachers themselves are maintained and developed.

The emergence of new mechanical production technologies that allow the manufacture of complex mechanical parts and specific materials requiring behavioral skills:

1. Behavior and durability of materials
2. Metal forming technology
3. Optimization of processes and machining processes

It is in this spirit that the activities of the Unit of Mechanical Production Engineering and Materials (UGPMM) are inscribed.
